PROJECTS

At Marie's Kitchen of Love, we quickly reaiized that in order to make a lasting impact in the lives of Haitian children, we would have to developed initiatives that addressed the whole child which includes their family and community. All of our projects are designed to support the personal development of the child and economic development of the community.

Education

The school, Institution Mixte de Marie Asse', was built in 2007 and rebuilt in 2010 after the earthquake in Haiti. Since its inception over 300 children have passed through its doors. Currently, the school educates 250 children annually from ages 3 - 18 years old. In addition, the facility is used to provide adult classes in Reading, English and basic Mathematics. To support the school we organize the following campaigns:

  • School Supply Drive

  • Clothing Drive

  • Shoes Drive

Community Development

The school has expanded its purpose and doors to the needs of the greater community. It has been used to host church services, community meetings and activities. In 2012, Dlo Pou Viv, a WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) program was launched and provided access to clean, safe water and education on proper hygiene. To support the community development we provide:

  • Adult classes in Reading and Math

  • Community Food Bank

  • Water Wellness Project

The school provides free nutritious meals to both students and staff members. For most students, this is the only meal they will eat that day.  Many of our teachers travel by bus and foot two-three hours each way with only a water bottle. Haiti currently ranks 77 out of 79 countries on the Global Hunger Index. To support our Health and Wellness Program, we organize the following campaigns:

  • Food Donation

  • Medical Supply Drive

  • Recreational Activities

Job Creation

With a goal to elevate the entire community, we focus on ways to foster job creation. The growth of the school and availability of clean water have supported these efforts. The school employs teachers, cooks, and aides. Local vendors are able to use clean, safe water to cook their products and sell to the community. To support our Job Creation Program, we provide training in the following areas:

  • Teachers & School Aides

  • Cooks

  • Entrepreneurship
